In late 2020 I started writing about film again. This was after a long hiatus due to general disillusion about a field I've had an on-and-off relationship with since my first formal film studies in the early 2000s.
Not having surveyed the landscape of media outlets for a long time, I was surprised there still was no helpful website to do this in a structured way. I wanted a comprehensive list of outlets and a way to filter them by categories such as "film and television". I wanted this list to be up to date, maintained, and uncluttered by the mess of the modern web: popups, ads, notifications, and surveillance. Just a great source of well-ordered information for a specific purpose.
Like any hacker, I had no choice but to put this tool together myself. I started working on it sporadically, a few hours here and there. Most of the time was spent categorising outlets, and some was spent devising a system that would allow me to continuously and automatically identify stale content and remove it.
Almost one and a half years later, I consider it good enough to be made public. I present to you: Get Published.
It's still an elementary website but hopefully fulfils its purpose to help freelance writers find outlets to publish their work. It has saved me many hours of hunting around the internet. I hope it saves you many too.
This is just the first version. I encourage you to try it out and let me know how to improve it. Read more on how it works on the About page and ways to support the development on the Support page. I have also included a small collection of links to good pitching guides and similar, which can be helpful for new writers.
Many thanks to Corin Ism for input and insights during development and for helping me over the finishing line in the past couple of weeks.
